Are you in the Dashboard?

    • YES
      • Use the QuickPress area to publish post OR
      • Use top-menu bar, go to Add New > Post
    • NO
      • Use top-menu bar, go to My Blogs >Installing WordPress on IIS > New Post OR
      • If problem persists, log out & log back in after a few minutes

Are you signed in to Blog correctly?

  • YES
    • Review the Common Tasks section to Toggle between Dashboard & GUI Blog
  • NO
    • Log off & sign in again

Review & Add New Categories

(S) In the left-hand menu, click on Posts > Categories to view the contents in the screen on the right

(T) Add New Category. Enter Name of Category, select if it belongs to a parent category, enter description

(U) Click Add New Category to add new category to list

(V) Review list of Categories; sort by Bulk Actions, click Apply

(W) Identifies name of category, for this particular example, it is the 5th category called Menu Description

Identify & Add New Users

(P) In the left-hand menu, click on Users (P) to view the contents in the screen on the right

(Q) Users identified: Camandche image uploaded & attached to user named camandche.  Role of user confirmed & the number of posts that user has submitted is also identified

(R) Add User From Community. Enter new users email address, identify the role the user will require & click on Add User. An email will be sent to that user to invite them to your blog

Once the basic blog is up & running, the user can tackle more advanced features.  These can range from:

  • Changing the theme of your blog
  • Inviting a User to the blog
  • Identifying categories

(N) In the left-hand menu, click on Apperance (N) to view the contents in the screen on the right

(O) Manage Themes menu

There are a few ways to add a new post to your blog.  The quick way to get to a new post after login, is to access the Dashboard, use the top-menu bar.  Go to My Blogs > Installing WordPress on IIS > New Post

NOTE: Once in the Dashboard mode, use the QuickPress (E) to add new posts to your blog easily.

Some common tasks using WordPress will be to navigate between different windows layouts & to add a new post quickly.

Toggle between Dashboard & Blog GUI

Navigating between Dashboard & your blog is crucial as you need to see how others will view everything.

To access the Dashboard, use the top-menu bar.  Go to My Blogs > Installing WordPress on IIS > Dashboard

To access the Blog from the Dashboard, click on link: Installing WordPress on IIS

It will take you to the blog below . . .

(I) In the left-hand menu, click on Media (I) to view the contents in the screen on the right

(J) Upload New Media menu

(K) Click Select Files

(L) In pop-up screen, choose items to upload, click on Open

MEDIA UPLOAD CONFIRMATION

(M) File has been uploaded to the Media Library.  This file can be selected & easily added to a post


(F) In the left-hand menu, click on Posts (F) to view the contents in the screen on the right

(G) Posts menu – quickly identifies the description

(H) All posts can either be listed here on this page or only the published list of posts can be shown.  It identifies:

  • What the title of the post is?
  • Who wrote it?
  • What categories it belongs to?
  • Number of tags applicable to it?
  • Plus other special features

 NOTE: A new post can also be added from the top-menu bar, click on Add New > Post

A new window will pop up allowing you to complete the above, but it also provides formatting features, for example, bold, italic, etc.  Once finished, click on Publish to submit.

  • Posts

Posts are the content you write about & the purpose of having a Blog.  A page is a separate webpage which may contain About Us information, while categories are sections for grouping posts together.  A tag is similar to bookmarking (metadata) which allows a post to be searchable on the Internet.

(D) Discussion Specifications: Quick referral to identify the number of:

  • Comments
  • Approved
  • Pending
  • Spam

contained within this Blog

The discussion section deals with factors that have occurred within your Blog.  This could include the four areas above. The comments section identifies how many replies have occurred, while the approved section identifies the number of comments confirmed by an authorised user.  Pending identifies how many comments are waiting for approval & finally any Blogs looking suspiciously as spam will be noted in this section.

(E) QuickPress

This area could be used to quickly write up & publish a post.  Fill in the Title, Content & Tags section.  You can either save as a draft or click: Publish to submit it to your Blog.
